WWU Viking Showdown and FREE 10 & Under Tennis Clinic for the Bellingham and Ferndale Boys & Girls Club Kids

WWU Club Tennis Team will host their annual Viking Showdown Tennis Tournament Fundraiser at the Bellingham Tennis Club on January 13 & 14 and this year has added a free tennis clinic for Boys & Girls club kids.

This year the WWU Team, in partnership with Mark Toppe, USTA PNW Regional Director and the Bellingham Tennis Club, is also hosting a FREE Tennis Clinic for kids ages 10 & Under from the Bellingham & Ferndale Boys and Girls clubs.  In this unique clinic, each boy or girl will be matched up with one of the college tennis team players – including the visiting teams.  Eric Guenther, captain of the WWU team came up with this idea to help kids learn the joy of tennis.  The clinic will be held for about 30 kids on January 14th from 1:30-2:30pm.  Interested parents should contact the Boys & Girls Clubs to see if there is still room in the clinic.

The free clinic is designed to help kids learn how to play tennis and further build the confidence of the kids from the Boys and Girls Club and to help them to identify as tennis players. Eric Guenther, Captain of the WWU Club Tennis Team has been volunteering with the various Boys and Girls Club throughout the academic quarter and this event is a culmination of efforts put forth by the Bellingham Tennis Club, the USTA, and the Western team to help the kids form long lasting bonds and friendships, and the chance to develop into great players.

Schools in attendance for the Viking Showdown and free tennis clinic include University of Washington, University of Oregon, Simon Fraser University, University of British Columbia, and hosts Western Washington University.

The Bellingham Tennis Club donates the court time and use of this Club so that all of the Tournament fees are contributed to the WWU Club Tennis Team and the tennis clinic is free.
