Bellingham Herald Features Our Renovations!

Bellingham tennis club owners reinvest in core business

By DAVE GALLAGHER — THE BELLINGHAM HERALD

The most profitable option in business isn't always the best one, and that's something Doug and Robin Robertson have realized with their tennis club.

The Robertsons own Bellingham Tennis Club as well as Fairhaven Fitness at 800 McKenzie Ave. They are in the midst of a major renovation, which includes fixing the roof, resurfacing the tennis courts and improving the lighting. It's a project that will cost more than $200,000 and is expected to be completed at the end of summer. The facility is still in use during the remodel, but a grand re-opening celebration is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 8.

Our Dirtly Little Secret.....behind the curtains.  Yikes!
 Hanging the 1st ceiling section....
 Two ceiling sections done....fantastic!!
If you've ever lived through a construction project, you know that "stuff happens".

There was a delay in delivery of the new wall insulation so the equipment is now moving
to courts 3, 4, 5 to start on the ceilings.

Insulation is due to arrive on Wednesday - so our plan now (until it changes again!) is to complete courts 3,4,5 ceilings first, then the walls and then move back to courts 1 & 2 to complete the walls.

You can watch the transformation before your eyes from our viewing in the lobby or when you are working out.

Speaking of working out....we have FREE T-CON (TENNIS CONDITIONING) CLASSES for all of our Tennis Members and FREE GET Fit classes during our construction.  It's a great time to get off the court and work on the other most important part of your game - your fitness.

T-CON
Mon/Wed/Fri 12:00 pm
Tue/Thu  11:00 am
Tue/Thu   4:30 pm

These 45 minute training sessions will help you become stronger, faster, and more resiliant.  Want that?  Give it a try!

Thanks for your patience and understanding during our construction!

Flamingos Stay in the Game

The flamingos know
   the truth of the game
To win or lose
   is all the same
It’s the joy we take
   and the lessons we learn
That bring us closer
   to the things we yearn
The flamingos fight
   for cancer’s demise
And take a moment
   for tennis exercise
It clears their heads
   and gives strength each day
To continue the research
   to send cancer away.

The flamingos arrived at The Bellingham Tennis Club & Fairhaven Fitness this morning on 5/9/12 for a quick game of tennis before continuing on with their battle against cancer.  The flamingos know that regular exercise can help prevent cancer too.

Dedicated to our loved ones lost to cancer…

USTA 10 & Under Free Tennis Day at Bellingham Tennis Club

On Wednesday April 4th the BTCFF tennis instructors, WWU club team members, & USTA"s Mark Toppe all volunteered a few hours to introduce the great game to some of our future players and stars. Kids from the Boy's & Girl's Clubs of Lynden, Ferndale, & Bellingham were bussed in to enjoy the experience at a real tennis club.

USTA and BTCFF are introducing the new 10 & under format of softer balls, smaller rackets, and shortened courts to make the game easier for the youngsters to be enjoy the game at their level. Success always brings a smile.

Thanks also to Stepahanie Walters & her kids Nick and Lauren Smith for volunteering their time and showing these kids a great time

Check out Ball Girl Lauren!

Our very own member Lauren S. was selected again this year to be a "ball girl" at the PNB Paribas Open Tournament in Palm Springs for the second year in a row.  The training is quite serious and the players range from gracious to....not so much.  Lauren was responsible not only on the court, but also as "Ambassador" to the Tennis Garden - having to answer many questions from guests.

Way to go Lauren!  We are VERY proud of you!
